Integrative Medicine

Integrative medicine combines conventional medicine with complementary and alternative medicine and is a fairly new holistic approach to health care in the United States.  In conventional medicine, the focus is on the body. Integrative medicine considers the whole person—body, mind, spirit, and community to get the big picture of health. Care is focused on prevention, health maintenance, and healing while recognizing the body’s ability to heal itself, often without the use of pharmaceutical drugs.

What types of conditions can integrative medicine treat?

Integrative medicine can be used for a wide range of health issues. Many people who suffer from health issues and diseases and are not seeing results from conventional medicine may find integrative medicine helpful, including those who have:

• High blood pressure
• High cholesterol
• Depression
• Anxiety
• Fibromyalgia
• Chronic fatigue syndrome

Talk with your doctor to see if integrative medicine may be useful for your health conditions and goals. He or she can give you a referral for an Integrative Medicine visit.
